Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants

I only posted on Monday as a catch up post on the previous weeks so not that much to add.

I went for a nice walk yesterday, on what was probably the last warm sunny day of the year. Today the weather has turned and i can feel a draft coming in from our sash windows.

It may mean that shortly we bite the bullet and ‘seal’ the window for the winter by jamming folded cardboard into the cracks. Amazons A4 shipping cardboard packets  opened up and cut in to strips works really well.

Also worth mentioning: I woke up from an intense dream the other morning:

I was an important peach taster. Some were confused messes of sweetness, others sang though with the pure taste of peach.

I don’t think I’ve ever tasted in a dream before.

Permanently Moved

Episode 25 – The Loop

The Loop is a phenomena emergent in the digital age.
What’s worse is it’s highly likely that whatever you were reading wasn’t worth reading in the first place.
I also thank Fiber Festival and announce my talk and panel discussion at unsound.pl next week. See you there!!

You can subscribe to Permanently Moved in itunes: permanentlymoved.online/itunes or search in all your favourite podcatchers.

The last two episodes (24/25) should be listened too back to back as they are all part of the same topic: Attention sovereignty. They also seem to be the most popular shows i’ve done so far in the half year or so I’ve been making the podcast – which is nice.

If you like ’em. please share as I’m pretty proud of the reaction they’ve been getting.

The topic is in the air right now. I Venkat’s newest breaking smart is also on a similar/adjacent subject.

Dipping the stacks

Finality  – New web comic from Warren Ellis – Love It

What’s Wrong With Jordan Peterson? (Floor Presses, Osho and Joe Rogan)

The Ministry

Been working on my talk for unsound. Here’s the pitch:

Confusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Conspiratainment

In 1985 Postman wrote β€œPeople will come to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think”.
What new kinds of mental models do we need in order to think with the current rise of fake news and questionable β€˜truthiness’ in our present media environment. All in context of pervasive surveillance, secrecy, and increasing global complexity…

Im also going to be on a panel called Beyond Cyberpunk

Reading

I haven’t read anything this week to my shame, except for a few pages of the Paul Biography the other night.

But I did invest a lot of time catching up on Rogan podcasts. I really enjoy the nutrition debates.

Music

Been listening to the new Tim Hecker, a lot.
