Dispatches from a Sick Bed

I’ve been sick since last Wednesday Night/Thursday morning. chesty cough, fever sweats the whole she-bang. I haven’t been sick like this since we were traveling. A similar thing – but this time without the full on death rattle in my chest when trying to breath laying down.

As such, a bunch of things including important emails I was supposed to reply too were put on hold, and today (Monday) I’m trying to catch up on life. I did fulfil my social obligations at the weekend which I perhaps shouldn’t have done in order to make a more speedy recovery. But ah well!

Permanently Moved – NA

Didn’t make a podcast as I felt so crap on Friday. Had I made one, it would have been on Old Town Road’s music video and just how amazing it has been watching Lil Nas X meme the whole thing into existence.

I have a new talk to add to the list of talking i’m doing this year but can’t talk about it yet. Writing Land As Platform has gone out the window since the 16th and I’m not sure I’ll be able to catch up with the word count.

Reading

I read all of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Ruin from my sick bed over the weekend.

It is a fantastic sequel to his 2015 Children of Time.

Children of Ruin is a direct follow on from the previous book, using tricks and narrative devices to tell a new story in the same universe of a new world touched by humanity in the long distant past. It plays with cognition or even perhaps the idea of the soul in places. I highly recommend reading both the books if you haven’t started the series at all.

I did fine that because Children of Ruin is the sequel it didn’t blow me away as much as the first book, as many of the ideas that are the coolest are already introduced. However that being said, this allows Tchaikovsky to push them further and develop them in exciting ways. Can’t wait to wait 3/4 years until the next one comes out.
