The Last Post??

4 minutes

*If* providing everything goes well next week. This should be the last post on this blog from me. Apparently the transfer *should* be seamless (I still need to contact wordpress.com customer support to make it happen). When I’ve put the new version of thejaymo.net live I will post here to say HAHA I’ve “permanently moved“.

Basically I’ve spent all week up to my elbows in WordPress. 14-15 years ago (oh god I can’t believe I can say that and it actually mean I was still an adult) I used to build web websites for money. Back in the days of WP 1.0ish. Before that I used to be an admin on a PHPBB so I’ve had some latent skills laying around to pick up again. I built the one page website thats currently on thejaymo.net back in Jan of 2018 and I’m still happy with it and I’m glad I semi reacquainted my self with WP back then.

I’ve had simple one page websites with my face on them for the best part of the last decade. BUT now I needed something more, I think its finally time to pull all the various disparate parts of my web identity (which I deliberately kept separate) into one place. Because I’m freelancing and doing all these talks and shit I need to have a one stop shop/semi web cv that lays it all out.

I’ll write more next week on my NEW blog πŸ˜€ about how weird its been pulling the last 10 years of my life together.

For now tho here’s the front page as the site loads:

*looks down* I’m literally wearing the same thing today as this photo I snapped in the spring

I totally get why websites are so fucking expensive. I’ve been hitting my head against a brick wall a lot this week trying to solve the simplest of problems. A mix of fighting the theme limitations vs the actual php settings. Most of my issues are revolved now except one. But I’ll continue to check and uncheck boxes and delete my cache and reload and see it its resolved over the weekend.

Also this week I went to see Holly at the Barbican. The world and his wife were also all in the foyer. Was was cool!

I wanted to go to the pokecentre shop launch yesterday at Westfield but I saw there was 6 hour queues on twitter and noped out.

Still thinking on the same thread as last week about being inspired by other people in my life, and wanting to do more ambitious things.

WEBSITE. ITS ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT. I HAVEN’T HIT ANY WRITING TARGETS THIS WEEK.

SHOULD I DO NANOWRIMO?

Reading

I basically have like 10(?) books left to read until I’ve read 1/2 of all the Warhammer 40k books available to buy and 100% of the books I actually want to read.

This years 65+ book binge has done weird things to my psyche fo sure. You would have thought I’d have got genre fatigue or something but there seems to be no signs of that – or slowing down.

This week I read Talon Of Horus. I’m reading it’s sequel right now.

Music

Planet Mu is re-releasing Greg Hates Car Culture by Venetian Snares as a 20th Anniversary edition. I can’t express the influence this album had on my life when I first heard it as a 15 year old in 2000. I bought GHCC the same week as I bought Sunn 0)))’s ØØ Void. These two albums changed my life for the better.

It’s wild to think that this Album kinda sounds fairly pedestrian to my ears 20 years on – compared to (if I may say so) the shit I used to DJ in a gassmask and robes back in the late noughtys. But at the time, this was and still is one of the most ‘raw’ records from venny snares hands down. I do think that the Winnipeg Is a Frozen Shithole album is more ‘brutal’
As I listened to this album on 20 year old MP3s this week, I could see the old OG pallid off green renoise tracker interface scrolling passed my eyes at warp speed.

I’ve also listened to this single a few times. I’m not sure why I like it so much. BUT I’m really in to the bassline sound and gonna try and replicate it this weekend in renoise.
