Do Everything

Back to the real world after a good long break.

Early in the week I went for lunch with a friend in Soho. We went to NOPI and it was fancy as fuck. Amazing food and inspirational conversation. We spoke a lot about where our lives are after 10 years of friendship and where we want to be in 2030.

I’ve been lucky to have been to quite a lot of fancy places to eat in London and have a question:

What is it that compels fancy Soho lunch spots to decorate their washrooms like that hall of mirrors nightmare we’ve all had?

My Brother told me on IG that getting 8 chins in this photo was impressive.

The answer of course is that the End of Empire London dining experience IS a hall of mirrors nightmare experience.

Also new this week: This envelope arrived with no explanation ..

Crimson Hexagon Envelope

I haven’t opened it yet. But I will when I pluck up the courage.

After I post this blog, I’m going to be going back to learning about video editing. It’s a real gap in my skill set.

After a “wouldn’t it be funny moment’ just before New Years, things grew much larger than I intended and this week I filmed a ‘Bullet Journal Video’. I thought I might as well try and ape the aesthetic of all the vloggers who make these videos. My friend Jen came over who is a professional photographer. I borrowed her camera as my trusty DSLR no longer shoots video at all due to years of abuse in punk rock show mosh pits. Eve came home and posted this to Instagram.

Things are happening…

I’m excited to share it. I think trying to copy a well established tropey video style with clear expectations is a good thing to start with. Tho I have no idea how long its going to take me to learn how to edit/cut video. I have the evening clear so we’ll see.

I’m also planning on recording a voice over and making some background music too. Just to you know, do everything top to bottom. See how much work it is, like I said further my skill sets.

The event horizon that is the M25 means that people in London confuse national political news for local news.

Season 3 has a slightly different cover image style on Youtube. I’m hoping it will make them stand out a little more in the side bar.

The Ministry Of My Own Labour

I have a mountain of email and I need to finalise my taxes with my accountant. *sad trombone*.

I decided that this year is the year of ‘DO EVERYTHING’ . I’m going to say yes to basically everything. I’m interested in making, doing, being and belonging. Filling my life up full of stuff I want to do.

Last year I thought was going to join the 1000mph club. But to be honest I did a lot and achieved a lot. But it was more like 500mph club. Gotta go fast..

This year I wan’t to further all my skills I have, or at least demonstrate them in interesting ways. I want to use my sewing machine this year for something thats for sure. I also wan’t to put myself in a position to learn new ones. I’m not very good at contract negotiation so i’m going to try and put myself in a position to learn how to do it. Can’t learn unless you try.

Also this week, whilst not pushing me forward I DID rebuild the three essays I have on Medium.com over here on my site. Partly because I think Medium isn’t long for this world and I want to make sure all my ‘content’ is here on this island and not sitting on somebody else’s lot.

Long Form Writing cover
Long Form Essays now on my site.

I’m really pleased with how they look, Colonising the clouds was a massive pain to build as a static page. But its got fancy parallax and stuff, I’ve learnt a lot about my websites theme editor and even made some changes to other bits of the site with my new found knowledge.

Expect more long form essays from me this year.

Reading

I just finished the Complete Stories of Leonora Carrington.

4th book of 2020

I read the Hearing Trumpet last year on holiday and LOVED it. But these short stories are amazing. Right up there with Saki or Wilde. I’m so glad her work has entered my life. I’m going to keep a look out for art books when I’m browsing second hand shops.

Music

There’s A LOT of music thats come out at the end of 2019 that I’m catching up on.

Industrial chill mongers HEALTH have a fresh album out called Vol.4 :: Slaves of Fear (as well as a GTA DLC Soundtrack?). It rocks. This is one of my Fav tracks.

Hannah Dimond Has a New album out. 100% PC MUSIC if thats your sort of thing.

One of my all time favs, Japanese Experimental rock band OOIOO have a new album out too. This is my favourite track:

In other music news. I’ve joined a band (yeah I joined a band) COMMENT BELOW IF YOU GET THAT REFERENCE. First band practice is Thursday. Hope to get a demo recorded by March.
