I’d like to direct your attention towards this video ‘Ecofiction definitions: all the hashtags!’ from a new channel on the Youtubes called Ecofictology.

Not just because I get a mention by name. But because it is one of the best short/clear concise overviews of where the various threads of the genre is right now. Worth checking out.

Lockdown Week 5

Absolutely fuming this Saturday morning. Our Boomer neighbour came round to complain about a blocked gutter/drain that sits below out bathroom window. It was overflowing upstairs’ washing machine water/bubbles on to his patio.

I let him in to our hallway because I couldn’t be assed to speak to him though the door phone. But then… he just kinda invited himself into our flat and wandered around. With no respect for social distanicng at all. Every time I took a step back, he took a step towards me.

I should have just set some ground rules up when I let him in the main door to be honest. If we get sick we know who to blame (me for letting him in) Anyway. He came over AFTER having already having walked round to our estate agents in the high street to complain??? He was incredulous that it was closed!? What the hell is wrong with these people?
Thing is, I’d already noticed, stuck a stick out the window and cleared the leaves and hair and shit that was blocking the drain so it was already kinda resolved? Why walk round to the agents when you could just ring our bell?

I think this might be one of the first rants I’ve posted on the blog. Sorry about it but I’m mad as hell!

In other news I cleaned the fan in my laptop this week. It’s only crashed once on a video call since I cleaned it. 🙂 Still not sure whats going on. Anyone else with a early 2015 mac thats having issues?

The Ministry Of My Own Labour

The work that I’ve been up to has been really fufulling and im really pleased with how its going. But the team have just been furloughed so work is ending half way though – at the ned of next week. *Mwah mwah sad trombone plays*

I had a realisation the other night as I was laying in bed in the pitch black. There is literally no one telling me what I can and can’t do. I can do anything I want creatively and there’s no one to stop me.

Its was a weird moment. On reflection I think I’ve been paralysed by this fact for a number of years. Whilst I’ve gotten over myself in terms of trying to produce, write, and make things. I’ve been stuck by not having anyone to tell me what to do and when to do it.
Realising that this is a benefit not a detriment suddenly means I’m excited to create and make again. I can just make and do whatever I want! No approval needed!

Reading

I finished reading Pagans: The End of Traditional Religion and the Rise of Christianity by James J. O’Donnell.  It actually got a lot better as it moved in to Christianity and 3rd century Rome/the early church.

I burnt though the audio drams Agent of the Throne: Blood and Lies and Ragnar Blackmane: Saga of the Beast this week. Both were really enjoyable.

Now i’m reading How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by jenny Odell. Its … not the book I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised by how great the book is, and what it’s calling for. More info soon after I’ve read a bit more.
